Ski Report 3/15/2023

Good Morning!

We got a soft and fine inch of snow here in Essex last night! It’s looking like another beautiful sunny day, too!

Did you know that, according to the internet, the very first version of our modern day bungee-cord appeared in Siberia around 500 B.C.? Travelers used caribou guts strung together as somewhat-stretchy straps to help them carry their loads. Who’d have thunk that those strings of guts would turn into our modern-day, brightly-colored bungee cords used to hold together things like snowmobile drags!

Good Morning!

30* this morning and we are fairly saturated here in Essex; it rained a good portion of the night and *barely*switched to snow before sunrise. No grooming today but our temps are looking favorable later in the week!

Who doesn’t love cold March nights with some beautiful spring-like sunshine? Keep an eye on our reports as it could be a fantastic weekend up here!

Ski Report 3/1/2023

Good morning and Happy March!

We had a clear, beautiful sunrise and temps are hovering right at 10*. We’ve probably had a good 6″ of fresh snow since Sunday and the little bit we got snowmobile groomed yesterday will have 3″ or so on it.

Standby by for any grooming updates; currently our front desk/snowmobile-groomer-gal is also filling in for the breakfast server and might not get a chance to hit the trails before the sun does!

GROOMING UPDATE:

Our trusty (somewhat), rusty ol’ Yamaha managed to plow enough snow to get a few trails groomed! Skaters beware: perhaps it was the amount of snow, our snow-mobile groomer’s lack of experience, OR her lack of sun glasses on this bright day….but there is some chunder to watch out for!

Snowmobile-groomed:

  • Pileated (double pass)
  • Essex Road Lower (double pass)
  • Essex Road Upper (single pass)
  • Starlight (double pass)
  • Highline UP (single pass)
  • Essex Creek UP (single pass)

Ski Report 2/28

Good Morning!

It’s a slow and quiet Tuesday here in Essex. Our temps are just under 20* with snow currently falling and more in the forecast! We’ll be taking the snowmobile drag out for a bit this morning….likely a pass or two around Starlight, Cabin and Caboose Lane, Pileated and lower Essex Road. We’ll let the snow fall and hopefully get more groomed tomorrow.

Fresh Gulo gulo (wolverine) tracks were reported at the top of Essex Road in the last couple days. Like clock-work, year after year, our skiers and groomers report a set of wolverine tracks in the same spot on both Dickey Cr Road and Essex Cr Roads; the wolverines just hoping over the ridge in between like it’s a cake-walk!

Happy Wednesday!

Its -2 on our back deck this morning with partly cloudy skies that *might* part for some sunshine….or more snow and wind. Who knows what the day will bring at this point! Regardless be sure to bundle-up if you make the trek to Essex.

No grooming today as our grooming/snow removal team takes a much needed day off. Yesterday’s grooming has held up fantastically with very little traffic.

Ski Report 2/21/2023

Good Morning!

Last night started out with big, beautiful fat flakes pouring from the sky that, at some point during the night, turned to something a lot more rain-like than snow-like. We ended up with about 4″ of wet, heavy snow that we are currently testing the groomer out on. Stand-by for a progress report!

GROOMING UPDATE:

  • Starlight
  • Pileated
  • Essex Road
  • Highline (UP)
  • Essex Creek (DOWN)
  • *Groomer reported tough conditions on all trails ungroomed. Our temps are falling and creating a crust on the wet snow that fell yesterday afternoon.*

SNOWMOBILE GROOMED*:

  • Essex Road
  • Upper Dickey Loop
  • Spring Hill (Up)
  • Highline
  • Towering Pines
  • Pileated
  • Essex Creek
  • Starlight
  • *= All but Towering Pines and Upper Essex RD have double-wide passes with the snowmobile drag.

Good Wednesday Morning!!

We’ve got clear skies and single digits this morning here in Essex!

The front desk folks will be (hopefully) hopping on a snowmobile in an hour or so to do a little grooming with the drag; so stand-by for an updated report early this afternoon! And if you can’t wait then rest assured that yesterday’s grooming is holding up real nice for a little exercise, fresh air and sunshine.

Ski Report 2/8/2023

Happy Wednesday!

The good news is we got several inches of snow last night! The bad news: our groomer-fairy-godmother (who appeared like magic on a day off) has reported that the snow fell too wet and warm to groom very well. We did get just a few trails groomed: lower Essex Road, Starlight, and Upper Essex Rd just to Boy Scout Camp Crossover. Expect warm and soft conditions!
