Auction at the Izaak Walton Inn

Attics Of My Life – an auctioneer out of Whitefish, MT – will be managing the sale of various pieces from the Izaak Walton Inn Saturday June 17th from 10am to 7pm & Sunday June 18th from 10am to 3pm.

LOGE, the new owners of the Izaak Walton Inn, will be keeping a majority of art, artifacts, and ephemera as part of the renovations – still there are over 1,000 pieces including artwork, furniture, signage, and railroad memorabilia that will be available for purchase.

The sale will take place at the Izaak Walton Inn property and will be in person only (cash and card accepted). Note that all furniture and sale items will need to be picked up by the purchaser at time of sale – the auctioneer is not responsible for lifting furniture, assisting with bringing items to vehicles, trailers, flatbeds, etc. and will not be responsible for broken goods or damage of goods in transit. The auctioneer will not ship items.

Please respect our neighbors on property – some accommodations are staff housing, some locals are private owners of cabooses and houses on property, refer to the staff on hand about what is open and available to tour and please do not enter a building without first referring to a staff member. Cabooses, cabins, and buildings on property are not for sale.

Closure

The Izaak Walton Inn will be closed from March 31st 2023 until tentatively Winter 2023 or Spring 2024 (exact reopening date TBD).

Frequently Asked Questions during this time:

  • Will gift cards be valid upon reopening? Yes, the new owners will vouch previously purchased Costco Gift Cards (these gift cards have a winter or summer scene of the Izaak Walton Inn on the front).
  • Will the restaurant & bar remain open during renovations? No, all facilities related to the inn and our sister hotel the Halfway Hotel will be unavailable during the construction period.
  • Will the train still stop in Essex? Yes, Amtrak will still service to Essex but be advised there is no cell service, wifi, stores, food services, taxi/uber, or amenities in Essex. If you were to take the train here you could potentially be stranded in a remote location without assistance.
  • Will the trails remain open for hiking? – Yes, the Marion Lake Trail and Dickey Lake Trail will remain open as they are on forest service land. Do keep in mind these are backcountry trails off of a rough, unmaintained forest service road (4WD and a raised vehicle recommended), and the trails involve bushwhacking into bear and moose territory. If hiking in these areas, consider bringing a Spot/Beacon/InReach in case of emergency. ATVs are not permitted on the roads per the forest service. Backcountry camping may require a permit, call the Hungry Horse Ranger Station for more information.

Snow Report 12/10/22

It is currently 20 degrees at 9:00 am.  Trails groomed today: Essex Road, Starlight, Pileated, Towering Pines, Highline, Essex Creek, Junction Circle and Dickey.

There is a track set on Essex Road, Pileated and Essex Creek.

The Outer Complex Loop (Essex Road to Highline Down and Essex Creek Down) and Essex Road to Dickey Road have been groomed several times and has set up very nicely.  The interior trails of the complex are freshly groomed and still quite soft but lovely for a classic ski.

There are patches of blue in the sky. The creeks are flowing and beautiful with their snow capped rocks. Come on out and enjoy a fabulous day on the Izaak Walton Inn ski trails! Ski passes are available at the Front Desk of the Inn.
